Take a few minutes to fill out the CORE-UAW Graduate Student Bargaining Survey!
Since our union was certified with supermajority support, we have continued to prepare for our negotiations with the UMass Chan Administration. Recently, we elected a Bargaining Committee of UMass Chan postdocs and graduate students started to collect bargaining surveys from a majority of postdocs and graduate students to shape our collective priorities.
The next step is for our bargaining committees to draft initial bargaining goals which all postdocs and graduate students will have the opportunity to ratify before official negotiations with UMass begin. In order to form the most representative bargaining goals possible, we ask all postdocs and graduate students to fill out the bargaining survey below.
When filling out the survey, please keep the following things in mind:

Some topics in the survey may already exist at UMass, however, until we negotiate them into a legally binding contract, we have no way to enforce these policies and UMass can unilaterally change or withdraw them at any time. With a union contract, we can both protect what we already have as well as make improvements.

Please rate the importance of including each right/protection in a contract for all postdocs/graduate students. You should rank items highly either when they are important to you personally, OR when they don’t affect you personally but you consider them important for all postdocs/graduate students to have access to in our contract.

We want our contract to be responsive to as many of our collective priorities as possible. Please use the comment sections to add or expand on anything that is important to you or any examples you would like to share with your bargaining committee. The more details we have the better!
