Yesterday, we delivered our Open Letter to Chancellor Collins’ office, urging the University to halt all layoffs of Postdocs and demanding that they meet with us as soon as possible to discuss all possible alternatives. You can read the Open Letter here. Thank you to all who signed on!
Postdocs from across campus went to deliver a copy of our letter to Chancellor Collins’ office.
The letter was co-signed by nearly 300 people on campus, including a majority of all Postdocs and many other workers in solidarity with us. This shows that our concerns are shared among many of the workers of this University. The efforts of all those who supported this initiative so far by signing the petition and by sharing it with their coworkers were critical to reaching this goal. Our union is only as strong as we collectively make it.

These layoffs, as well as reduced admissions for graduate students, are in part a response to the Trump administration’s efforts to push massive cuts to the NIH, and other federal research agencies. If these cuts go through, they will only further jeopardize our work and, for those of us who are here on visas, our ability to remain in the country.
April is a critical time for funding decisions in Congress. That is why academic workers and allies in Massachusetts are planning to attend the ”Kill the Cuts” National Day of Action in Boston today (Tuesday) at the JFK Federal Building, 15 Sudbury St at 5:00pm.
